Spa Baby ~ The European Style Baby Tub

June 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The Spa Baby tub is really like no other on the market. Its design and style are truly unique and really quite nice! It doesn’t look like the many baby bathtubs that you have no doubt already had an opportunity to use. You might even look at this one and wonder just how on earth it actually works? Don’t worry you won’t need a degree or an engineer to walk you through the process.

I’ve been using the tub on a 13 lb, 3.5 month old child and it works very well for this particular age. It is a snug fit for baby though so I wouldn’t suggest trying to fit in your 9 month old for the first time if they aren’t already well used to how this tub is different. The Spa Baby tub is tall and narrow at the bottom but gets wider towards the top. It’s a nice shade of aqua blue and it shows you on the side how much water to put in it. The way that it works is really quite simple, you place the baby in the tub in a sitting position allowing the water to come right up to the baby’s shoulders, helping to keep baby submersed in the warm sudsy water.   It may take a few tries to determine your own best technique and I would assume that you would be able to adapt it to accommodate your growing baby.

I really liked how the tub helped to keep the baby upright even when they aren’t old enough to do it on their own. I found that I could use one hand to stabilize the baby’s head and neck while I used the other hand to wash the baby’s body. In order to wash the baby’s back and bottom I was able to rest the baby’s chest on my forearm in a semi standing position while I used the other hand to do the actual washing. The tub wasn’t tippy at all!

One of my favourite things about the Spa Baby tub is how easily it fits in my kitchen sink as I’m a big kitchen sink bather. The tub itself is made of a translucent aqua blue plastic with rounded edges and seems very durable. It has a grippy rubber seal around the bottom to prevent movement of the tub itself and it has a sturdy handle on either side of the tub for easy lifting with or without water. The tub is designed so that you use very little water while still covering the baby up to its shoulders. I find this to be a very nice feature as it takes seconds to ready the tub for the baby and it is environmentally friendly.

All things considered I give the Spa Baby tub two big baby thumbs up! It was easy to use, durable and lightweight. Give it a try yourself and see what you think!
