Entries from July 2008

Let me start out by saying that I am not a regular jewellery wearer. I am a busy mom and most days, actually every day, comfort is my first priority in getting dressed. Oh yeah, and I pretty much live in yoga pants. Just so you know where I’m starting from. Enter beaded cuff from anna made stuff.
It looked pretty enough. It looked really pretty, actually. The beaded cuff I wore was in a kelly green colour that actually looked good with my (gasp) yoga pants. It was comfortable and light… I almost forgot that I was wearing it, save for the little glimmer of green that intermittently caught my eye and made me feel slightly less slobby. And let’s face it, that’s a lot to ask of a little bracelet! However, my anna made stuff cuff did not stop there. It also did double duty as a fantastic distraction to my 10 month old and held up very nicely under the pressure of her mad gumming (sorry Anna).
Although I am admittedly a slob, I did try on the cuff with a dressier outfit and it looked amazing! Perhaps it was just my dizzy realization that I was indeed wearing heels (although I think not) but my new anna made stuff cuff was the perfect balance of eye catching and elegant. It brought just the right amount of bling to my spiffed-up self and I honestly can’t wait to wear it again (but not in heels)!
When I started out writing this review, I wondered how much I could say about a piece of jewellery. However, thanks to anna made stuff and one heck of a beautiful cuff bracelet, this was in no way a problem. I love this bracelet for its simple yet unique beauty and I have to admit that Anna has made a jewellery wearer out of me!

Back when I had one child, having her portrait taken was so easy…maybe too easy. We have albums upon albums of professional photos from every milestone in her life. Fast forward a few years, and here I am with three children and zero pictures with all of them together. Not that I didn’t try, but something about sitting in a dark room with giant lights flashing in their faces had my timid kids heading for the hills. So when I got a chance to visit Dreamcatcher Photography at their new studio in Hyde Park, I jumped at it!
I was thrilled with the relaxed atmosphere, we were able to de-sauce the kids faces and get every hair in it’s place before starting. Julie Duggan, the owner, immediately put my usually skeptical crowd at ease and the smiles that were captured on film were ones of little people genuinely enjoying themselves.
We were able to make it through three costume changes, a few backdrops, and I am pleased to report that Julie has enough Star Wars trivia knowledge to keep my fidgety little man utterly captivated.
Our pictures were ready to view online within a week, and I was able to share the photo proofs with my out-of-town relatives so they could weigh in on what selections to make. After AGONIZING for a few days, I settled on some gorgeous shots of my gorgeous kids! All in all it was a stunning success, and a painless process. We are certainly looking forward to our next trip out…getting great photos of 3 kids at once?? A BREEZE! Visit their website at http://www.dreamcatcherlondon.com.

I was invited to my first Epicure Selections party a few months ago and I had no idea what I was in for. I wasn’t quite sure what I could possibly want to buy at a home party that sold food… until I tried it that is.
Epicure Selections sells a wide variety of spices and sauce mixes and anything you need to add amazing flavour to any food you want to eat. An Epicure party involves a lot of eating which is always a great thing! The demonstrator provides a selection of dips, salad dressings, marinades and the list goes on. You can sample everything before you buy and the best part of it is that when your husband complains about the fact that you are going to another home party, you can just tell him that it is pretty much just grocery shopping with the girls. The prices of Epicure Selections products are amazing and with their products, a little goes a long way.
I have several Epicure dips that I am in love with. Their fruit dips are super easy and delicious. I like to make the Lemon Chiffon and all I do is add one scoop of the mix to a cup of Cool Whip. You don’t have to use Cool Whip though, you could use yogurt as well. I also recently made a warm cheese dip with Epicure spices. All I did was add one tablespoon each of three of their spices, Lemon Dilly, Three Onion and Herb and Garlic to 1 package of cream cheese, half a cup of mayonnaise and a cup of grated cheese. You mix it all up in a food processor and then bake in the oven until warm and bubbly. It’s completely foolproof. You can add as little or as much of the spices that you like to make it the perfect dip for you.
Over all I have been impressed with every product that I have tried from Epicure Selections and they have made a regular customer out of me.

Do you have a toddler or preschooler that likes to try to print their name? Do you happen to have a child that likes to use stamps… repeatedly? Well, if your kids are anything like mine, I suspect that the answer to both of these questions is a resounding “yes”. Now, if you want to find out how to combine the two activities in a super fun way…read on.
Created by a mom and teacher, The Little Stamp Company offers customized “Signature” Stamps which spell out your child’s name with a dotted line. All your child has to do is follow the dotted lines in order to successfully learn to print their own name. The stamps come in three ink colours, upper or lower case lettering, and of course whatever name you need! The “Signature” Stamps were created to help youngsters learn to properly print their names, and on just about any paper they like (or the back of the lazy boy if you happen to be my daughter).
Previous to receiving her “Signature” Stamp, my daughter had zero interest in learning to print… unless you count her violent and repeated strikes on the paper while yelling “I, I, I, I”. But since receiving her stamp she has been singing a different tune – literally. She absolutely loves the fact that she can use it by herself. She will actually take the time to properly trace each one of the letters in her name (unless she gets distracted by how fun it is to use and then goes on a reckless stamping spree). And instead of yelling “I”, she says her name. The stamp has stood up to countless presses and the odd toss across the room. The ink is still going strong after a couple of months and since it is washable, if someone happens to stamp, say, a younger sibling… it will wash off. Not that I know anything about that.
So if you have a child that needs a little help, or just a little fun, learning to write their name, The Little Stamp Company’s “Signature” Stamp may just be what you’re looking for. It’s educational, it’s entertaining, and it definitely has my stamp of approval.
WIN IT: Win a customized The Little Stamp Company “Signature” Stamp! You get to choose from three colours, upper/lower case lettering, and your child’s name.
